Living in Community Action Plan Update
Living in Community has been working closely with the City of Vancouver since the beginning to address the health and safety of sex workers and the impact of sex work on communities.
(2015) Sex Work Response Guidelines
(2014) City of Vancouver and Vancouver Coastal Health Joint Submission to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights Regarding Changes to Canada’s Prostitution Laws Under Bill C-36 “The Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act”
In the past, Living in Community worked with the Vancouver Police Department with the aim of improving relationship-building with sex workers and increasing reporting. In 2013, the VPD implemented Sex Work Enforcement Guidelines. As of November 2017, the Provincial Sex Work Enforcement Guidelines below take precedence over the VPD Guidelines.
Commissioner Wally Oppal recommended the expansion of the Living in Community model to other communities within BC and, more recently, LIC has worked with the provincial government to create provincial sex work enforcement guidelines that will harmonize approaches in municipalities across BC.
